We Filipinos do not only prefer it just because of the taste, but also because of how much money we’ll save as it requires affordable ingredients.
Filipino Style Spaghetti vs Italian Spaghetti
Our version uses tomato sauce and banana ketchup. Compared to the original Italian spaghetti made entirely of fresh tomatoes. Thus, they taste completely different. We have ours on the sweeter side, while Italians have their own version made from real tomatoes which taste sour and tangy.
So what are we waiting for? Let’s get to know what you need and how to make this Pinoy favorite for your next merienda or celebration.
Ingredients and Substitute
Get the pasta or spaghetti noodles from your local supermarket. It will be our main source of carbohydrates and often used as an alternative for rice when it comes to Pinoy meals. Any brand of this will do.
We need some salt and pepper for additional taste. Salt is also needed together with water when boiling the pasta noodles.
Olive oil, onion, and garlic will be the first ones to be cooked. They always add this unique flavor to several dishes. Then get some minced beef and red hotdog to serve as the meat and protein source of our spag.
We’ll use tomato sauce and tomato paste plus banana ketchup for the sauce. They are essential for that Filipino taste that we aim to get. Then evaporated milk and brown sugar will be responsible for the sweetness.
