Ingredients

  • 2 cups glutinous rice
  • 2 cups coconut milk
  • 1 small panutsa
  • 1 cup muscovado sugar
  • 2 cups water
  • 1 tsp lye water
  • banana leaves

Instructions

  • Wash the glutinous rice
  • Soak the rice in 2 cups of water and 1 tsp of lye water for at least 2 -3 hours.
  • Melt the panutsa in a pan with the coconut milk and muscovado sugar.
  • Heat the banana leaf, this is to prevent it from breaking apart when covering the rice cake.
  • Drain the rice and scoop 4 spoon full then put it on the banana leaf.
  • Wrap and secure the rice with the banana leaf.
  • Tie with a string to prevent the water getting inside the rice when boiled.
  • Tie the pieces together as shown on the video.
  • Boil for 1 - 1.5 hours.
  • Top with the syrup and serve.
