Puto Bumbong Recipe is a bamboo steamed rice cake sold and eaten during Christmas season in the Philippines. It is usually sold near a Catholic Church and cooked together with Bibingka.

Ingredients

  • 3 cups glutinous rice flour
  • 1 ½ cups water
  • ½ cup purple yam
  • 3 drops violet food color
  • ¼ cup butter
  • ½ cup fresh grated coconut
  • ½ cup brown sugar

Instructions

  • Mix glutinous rice, water, purple yam in a bowl
  • Add the water gradually.
  • Drop some food color and mix well.
  • Shape into worm like object using your hands.
  • Put in a plate with aluminum cover.
  • Steam for 5 minutes.
  • Brush with butter then garnish with fresh coconut and brown sugar.
  • Serve
  • Note: You can use the bamboo steamer if you have it to steam the mixture.
