    Ginataang Kalabasa with Sitaw as we all know, vegetables are very nutritious and they are very much needed by our body. In the Philippines, squash is grown all throughout the year. They are grown in home gardens, schools, and in farms.

    It is a vegetable with a sweet taste and it is usually yellow in color. Squash is a very important kind of vegetable for it is a good source of vitamins and minerals.

    Long beans are of course has nutritive value which are also very important for our health. Long beans grow fast annually in the country. It is also one of the most delicious veggies which are grown in the Philippines.

    Ginataang kalabasa with sitaw is a very simple and common dish cooked by Filipinos. But I think it is not simple…it is very special and unique. Let’s find out why, shall we?

    It is made creamy and richer with the use of coconut milk. There are a lot of dishes that uses coconut milk and it never fails to make the dish so delicious. The milk has also fat contents so it is advised that you should only use the exact amount of milk to be added to this dish.

    We don’t like too much fat in our body, do we? The good thing is that it has vegetables that will balance to the amount of fat given by the coconut milk.

    Filipinos may or may not add yard long beans with the squash. But I think it is a very good combination. The sweetness of the squash combined with the taste of the beans is quite good in our mouth.

    They also add meat in cooking this wonderful dish. Pork meat or beef can be added and it will really give justice to this delicious treat. Shrimps or crabs can also be combined with it.

    Filipinos are really inventive when it comes to foods. They always make simple foods truly amazing.

    The first time you’ll cook and taste ginataang kalabasa with sitaw, you will surely cook it again because it is so good and very creamy.

    It has this different taste that you will continue to eat until you’re very full. It is also one way to make your kids start loving vegetable dishes.

    The yummy, sweet taste of the squash blended with the beans and other ingredients will really make your family crave for more and even ask you to cook it once more.

    Ginataang Kalabasa at Sitaw Recipe

    Ginataang Kalabasa with Sitaw or Squash with Long Beans in Coconut Milk is a very rich vegetable dish and its main ingredients are vegetables.

    Ingredients
      

    • 350 g shrimp
    • 300 g squash
    • 8 pcs string beans
    • 200 ml coconut milk
    • 1 small onion
    • 4 cloves garlic
    • 1 tsp salt

    Instructions
     

    • Heat a pan and add a cooking oil.
    • Saute the garlic and onion.
    • Add the shrimp and cook until the color turns into orange.
    • Put the string beans, and squash.
    • Add the salt and stir to spread evenly.
    • Pour the coconut milk.
    • Add some water and mix well.
    • Cook for 3-5 minutes until the vegetables are half cooked.
    • Serve.
