Coffee Jelly has become the Filipinos’ go-to dessert whenever there are parties for special occasions.

The sweet dessert is very easy to make, and it will only take a few moments to finish a whole serving that is enough to feed the guests of the party. This is a good enough reason for Filipinos to make it a usual part of their modern cuisine.

The Japanese are the first ones to discover this dessert, and since then the nearby countries were quick to adapt the recipe as it is known to be simple. This gelatinous sweet is said to be existing ever since coffee products were first introduced to Japan, so it must be older than what we expected it to be. Even as it was discovered that early, the sweet was already served similarly as often as it is now.

    How to Make Coffee Jelly

    • To make the jelly, combine hot water, instant coffee and sugar. Mix until well dissolved.
    • Add the clear unflavored gelatine and mix until completely dissolve and no granules visible. Transfer the coffee mixture to a small pot and bring to boil. I used ALSA Gulaman brand, if you are using different brand, follow the instruction from the packaging.
    • Transfer the mixture to a baking dish and let it cool. Put it inside the refrigerator for at least 2 hours or until set.
    • To make the cream, combine condensed milk, evaporated milk and all purpose cream. Add 1 tsp of instant coffee and mix until well combined.
    • Cut the jelly into 1-inch cubes and combine it with the milk mixture. Chill for another hour before serving.
    • Pour the coffee jelly mixture into a serving glass or cup.

Gelatin, coffee, and cream are the main ingredients of the delicacy, and they are the ones that contain whichever health benefits we can get from the food. Gelatin helps with inflammation issues in the body, and it has an almost similar amount of proteins (sometimes even more) when compared to meat products.

Coffee is our main source of caffeine, that’s why it is loved by many people. One of the several benefits of coffee is its effect on our brain. The cream contains lots of vitamins and minerals like vitamin A, vitamin E, and calcium.

This recipe is a light dessert that is usually served after a meal. If you try eating at a Japanese restaurant, you will notice the various choices of gelatin-based sweets, and the coffee dessert is one of them. It is very soft and creamy, plus the powerful scent makes it even more exciting and delicious. The dark color of the jellies is perfectly blended with the white cream, similarly to how their tastes complement each other.
